Lindsay Lohan Shines in 'Our Little Secret': A Festive Comedy Worth Watching

Lindsay Lohan makes her mark once again with her latest Netflix offering, ‘Our Little Secret’, which showcases her talent as she shifts from tabloid fodder back to the silver screen. Following her previous festive releases, such as ‘Falling into Christmas’, Lohan’s return feels refreshing despite the mixed reviews of her past projects. This time around, ‘Our Little Secret’ stands out among her trio of films with Netflix, offering a more polished take on the holiday comedy genre.

The film, directed by Stephen Herek, draws inspiration from early 2000s comedies, reminiscent of classics like ‘Meet the Parents’ and ‘Four Christmases’. While it doesn’t quite reach the high standards set by modern hits, it certainly aims to appeal to audiences who cherish the rom-coms of yesteryears. The plot kicks off with Avery (Lohan) and her boyfriend Logan (Ian Harding) having a heated confrontation at her surprise going away party in 2014. As she prepares to leave for London, Logan proposes, but Avery declines, leading to his exit. Fast forward a decade, both characters find themselves in new relationships and are set to meet their partners’ parents for the first time—only to discover they are spending Christmas with the same family.

This plot twist, while convoluted, paves the way for a series of comedic misadventures involving accidental consumption of weed gummies, underage drinking, and even some blackmail. Although the film fails to deliver consistent laughs, it is saved by its brisk pacing and an enthusiastic cast, including notable talents like Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, Judy Reyes, and Kristin Chenoweth, who injects her scenes with much-needed energy.

Despite the film’s shortcomings in its script—crafted by debut writer Hailey DeDominicis—it offers enough charm to entertain. While Lohan and Harding deliver decent performances, the overall narrative feels predictable and lacks innovation. As we look ahead to 2025, one can hope that future comedies steer clear of cliched tropes like characters indulging in edibles. In essence, ‘Our Little Secret’ is a serviceable Christmas comedy that, while not groundbreaking, provides a pleasant viewing experience for the holiday season. Now streaming on Netflix, it’s perfect for those in need of light-hearted entertainment during the festive period.
