An Essex woman has created a unique advent calendar to highlight the work of local charities. Mary-Ann Deasy, from Little Totham, has compiled a series of short videos showcasing 24 different organizations dedicated to helping residents in need throughout the county. Each day from December 1st to 24th, a new video will be shared on social media, sharing inspiring stories and spreading festive cheer.
Deasy, who conceived the idea in November, explained that the project has been a deeply moving experience. “My research has been humbling,” she said, “there are amazing people doing incredible things in our community.” This is her first year undertaking this heartwarming initiative.
The advent calendar aims to bring joy to viewers while shining a light on the essential services provided by Essex charities. “Each video highlights the amazing work of a charity supporting people in our community,” Deasy shared. “The clips are beautiful, and Advent is a wonderful time to celebrate our community spirit.” She added that she had a vast selection of over 3,000 charities to choose from, a testament to the county’s charitable nature. The final selection of 24 reflects a diverse range of organizations focused on supporting people of all ages and backgrounds.
Despite the short timeframe of just one month to assemble the project, Deasy expressed her commitment to inclusivity and diversity. “I’ve tried to be as inclusive and diverse as possible,” she stated, acknowledging the limitations of time. The calendar is a testament to the power of community and the importance of supporting local charities.
