A Jetstar flight heading to Thailand was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff. Flight JQ27 departed from Sydney Airport around 3:20 PM on Wednesday, but had to return and landed back in Sydney at approximately 5 PM. According to a Jetstar spokesperson, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced a mechanical issue, prompting the pilots to request a priority landing. Emergency services were on standby to meet the aircraft upon landing. Engineers are currently investigating the cause of the mechanical problem. Initially, there was speculation that the front tyre had exploded during takeoff, but footage from 7NEWS showed engineers examining the rear tyre, which appeared to be worn. Jetstar later clarified that one of the ten tyres sustained damage during takeoff, but it did not burst. Flight tracking data indicated that the aircraft circled multiple times near Richmond, located in northwest Sydney, before diverting over the water east of the airport for a safe landing. The runway at Sydney Airport was temporarily closed for about half an hour to facilitate the landing. Images captured by 7NEWS choppers displayed the aircraft landing smoothly, and fortunately, all passengers aboard were reported safe.
