Dublin experienced a lower voter turnout in the recent election compared to the 2020 figures. The city and county saw a combined turnout of 56.35%, a decrease from the 60.4% recorded in the previous election. While Dublin city saw only a slight dip, averaging 53.95% compared to 56.5% in 2020, the county experienced a more substantial decline, with an average turnout of 56.2% against 64% in 2020.
Turnout varied significantly across Dublin’s constituencies. Dublin Bay North recorded the highest turnout within the city, while Dublin Bay South showed the lowest. Surprisingly, Dublin Central, which had the lowest turnout in 2020, saw a significant increase this time, becoming the only area in the city with higher turnout than in the previous election.
Specific figures for Dublin city constituencies include: Dublin North West at 51% (down from 59.6% in 2020), Dublin Bay North at 62.77% (down from 64.5%), Dublin Central at 59% (up from 51.2%), Dublin Bay South at 47.7% (down from 52.1%), and Dublin South Central at 49.3% (down from 55.1%).
In Dublin county, the highest turnouts were observed in Mount Merrion (70.2%) and Portmarnock (68%), while Adamstown (28.8%) and Jobstown (39%) reported the lowest.
Nationally, several areas reported around 50% turnout by 9 pm, when polling stations closed at 10 pm. An exit poll suggested a tight race between Fine Gael and Sinn Féin, with Fianna Fáil trailing slightly. The vote count is underway across 32 count centers nationwide, expected to continue through the weekend.
