Lindsay Lohan's 'Our Little Secret' - A Festive Comedy with a Twist

Lindsay Lohan makes her return to the screen in ‘Our Little Secret’, a Netflix comedy that aims to redefine her image from tabloid darling to legitimate movie star. Following her not-so-stellar outings with Netflix, including the poorly received ‘Irish Wish’, Lohan’s latest offering is a refreshing change, albeit not a groundbreaking one. The film diverges from the typical Hallmark formula and instead channels the vibe of 2000s comedies like ‘Meet the Parents’ and ‘Four Christmases’, under the direction of Stephen Herek, known for his work with big names in that era.

The story kicks off in 2014, with Lohan’s character, Avery, rejecting a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Logan during her surprise going-away party. Fast forward a decade, Avery and Logan are both with new partners, but fate has them spending the holidays with the same family, as their partners are siblings. In a peculiar twist, they decide to keep their past relationship a secret, leading to a series of comedic misadventures involving accidental weed gummies, underage drinking, and embarrassing moments.

Despite its shortcomings, the film offers a decent dose of entertainment, buoyed by a spirited cast that includes former ‘Saturday Night Live’ members and the talented Kristin Chenoweth, who adds much-needed flair to the film. While the script lacks the sharpness to elevate the characters, Lohan and Harding manage to hold their own. As we approach the end of the year, one can only hope that future comedies steer clear of the tired trope of characters overindulging in edibles. Overall, ‘Our Little Secret’ is an enjoyable holiday watch that might just require a little extra cheer to really shine.

Now streaming on Netflix, ‘Our Little Secret’ provides a light-hearted escape this festive season.
