Lindsay Lohan makes her comeback in a new Netflix holiday film, ‘Our Little Secret,’ which, despite its flaws, offers a touch of enjoyment for viewers. Following her previous works, including ‘Falling into Christmas,’ Lohan’s latest endeavor marks her third film with the streaming giant, and it’s regarded as the best of the trio. The film is an attempt to break away from the typical Hallmark formula, channeling the spirit of early 2000s comedies while featuring a storyline filled with deception and comedic mishaps.
The plot kicks off in 2014 with Avery (played by Lohan) and her boyfriend Logan (Ian Harding) arguing at her surprise farewell party before she moves to London. After Logan proposes and Avery declines, they go their separate ways. Flash forward a decade, both arrive at the same family’s Christmas gathering, unaware that their partners are siblings. Choosing to keep their past a secret leads to a series of absurd events, including accidental consumption of weed gummies and mishaps at family gatherings.
Despite the film’s attempts at humor, it often falls flat, failing to deliver the laugh-out-loud moments one might expect from a holiday comedy. However, strong performances from a talented supporting cast, including Kristin Chenoweth and former ‘SNL’ stars, bring some life to the film, making it somewhat enjoyable.
While ‘Our Little Secret’ may not break new ground in the holiday genre, it serves as a reminder of Lohan’s star power and the nostalgic charm of rom-coms from the early 2000s. The film, available on Netflix, is a light-hearted addition to this year’s Christmas lineup, suitable for those looking for a brief escape during the festive season.
