In a dramatic turn of events, a Jetstar flight headed for Thailand was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff. Flight JQ27 departed from Sydney Airport at approximately 3:20 PM on Wednesday, but just two hours later, it was back on the ground in Sydney by 5 PM. According to a Jetstar spokesperson, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced a mechanical issue that prompted the pilots to request a priority landing. Emergency services were on standby as a precautionary measure. Initial reports suggested that the front tyre of the aircraft had exploded during takeoff, but further inspections showed that the rear tyre was actually the one in poor condition. The airline later clarified that one of the ten tyres was indeed damaged but did not burst. Flight tracking data indicated that the plane circled over Richmond in northwest Sydney several times before flying over the water east of the airport and eventually landing safely. The runway was temporarily closed for about half an hour to facilitate the landing process. Images captured by 7NEWS showed the aircraft landing smoothly, and fortunately, all passengers onboard were reported safe.
