The beloved “Holiday Tour of Homes” event is making a comeback to Laurel, Mississippi, after a pandemic-induced hiatus. Organized by the Laurel and Jones County Council of Garden Clubs, the tour will take place on Sunday, December 8th. This year’s tour promises a delightful journey through five historic homes located on Sixth through Eighth North Avenues in downtown Laurel. These architectural gems, built in the early 1900s, showcase a variety of styles, including Colonial, Italian Renaissance, Louisiana, and bungalows. Each home has beautifully preserved its original architectural details while incorporating tasteful modern updates.
Adding to the historical charm, the tour will also include a visit to the First Trinity Presbyterian Church, constructed in 1925 in memory of Lauren Rogers. This Gothic Revival-style church stands as a testament to the town’s rich history, with its striking arches serving as a defining feature.
Beyond the historical significance, the event serves a vital purpose. Proceeds from the tour will fund grants for park renovations in Jones County, including Mason Park, Gardiner Park, and several downtown Laurel locations. The organizers aim to enhance the beauty of these public spaces, thereby contributing to the overall aesthetic improvement of the community.
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., commencing at First Trinity Presbyterian Church. Tickets are priced at $20 and can be purchased at Patina’s and Southern Antiques in downtown Laurel or online. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the charm of Laurel’s history while supporting a worthy cause.
