The Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly has initiated Advent with a video message. Rt Rev Dr Shaw Paterson urges a focus on the true meaning of Advent and Christmas, extending beyond the nativity story in Bethlehem.
Paterson emphasizes the importance of conveying the significance of Jesus’s life, teachings, miracles, crucifixion, and resurrection. He stresses the need to share the message of Jesus’s victory over death and the promise of God’s Kingdom.
This year’s Advent theme, ‘Love comes down at Christmas,’ draws inspiration from Luke 1:79, highlighting the guiding light of peace offered to those in darkness. The Church of Scotland invites churches to share their Advent stories, photos, and experiences via email or social media, aiming to amplify local church narratives throughout December.
The message underscores the importance of remembering the core message of salvation and hope within the festive celebrations. The Church encourages active participation and sharing of faith-filled stories to enrich the Advent season for a wider audience.
